If you just started Invisalign, you may have also gotten cleaning crystals. These packets are often included in the treatment’s welcome kit. That said, there’s a good chance you’re afraid to try them. You likely aren’t sure how to use the products and want to avoid an accident. Well, your local Cary dentist will gladly solve your aligner dilemma. Here’s how to use Invisalign cleaning crystals and other ways to clean your clear trays.
What are Invisalign Cleaning Crystals?
In recent years, Invisalign’s makers revealed a new way to clean their trays. This method relies on what are now known as Invisalign cleaning crystals.
In essence, Invisalign cleaning crystals are a special solution for clear aligners. A packet of them can safely remove most plaque from your treatment devices. The crystals are also non-toxic, so they won’t harm your oral health. They’ll only target bad bacteria to keep your trays sparkling clean.
How Do You Use Them?
In general, it’s pretty simple to use Invisalign cleaning crystals. You only need to follow five key steps. These include the following:
- Remove the Aligners – Take the aligners out of your mouth. Then, briefly rinse them under tap water.
- Set the Trays in a Cleaning Container – Set your aligners in a cleaning container. Once you’ve filled the container with enough water to submerge the trays, add a packet of cleaning crystals.
- Shake Gently – Gently shake the cleaning container for 20 seconds. By doing so, you’ll dissolve and distribute the added cleaning crystals.
- Let Stand & Repeat – After shaking the container, let it stand for 15 minutes. You should then shake it again for another 20 seconds.
- Rinse Thoroughly – Rinse the aligners and container thoroughly with warm water.
By performing these steps once daily, your aligners should stay pristine for the long haul.
How Else Can You Clean Your Aligners?
Of course, using cleaning crystals isn’t the only way to clean your aligners. There’s also a method that relies on more typical items.
A basic cleaning of your trays doesn’t take much effort. First, you’ll rinse the aligners with water every night. You’ll then brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear liquid soap. Lastly, you should rinse the trays again to get rid of any debris. You can store them in a case later if they aren’t in use.
In the end, learning how to use Invisalign cleaning crystals is a good idea. Talk to your dental provider to find out more about the process.
